03/01/2004: "The Passion"

Mel Gibson’s film, The Passion, shows that a public discussion of biblical history will not end the world. The World Trade Center shows how our failure to address it – just might.

A crucifixion is not unique, the Romans did that to thousands of men. What is significant about the execution of Jesus is that he said he would rise from the dead. If that can be proven, it would have huge implications for all of mankind.

Christianity will point to reports of his empty tomb. That would be evidence for those who were there to see the tomb, but two-thousand years later it is not conclusive. Is there any additional evidence?

Biblical history states that, after his resurrection, Jesus would return to the earth with great power. At that time: the temple in Jerusalem would be destroyed, the city would be left desolate, the pagan gods would fall and the meek (or lowly humans) would inherit the earth. Did that happen?

History records that: in AD70 the temple was destroyed to its very foundation stones, the city of Jerusalem was left utterly desolate, the pagan gods vanished without a trace, the ancient world came to an end, and the meek (or lowly humans) inherited the earth in the dark ages of the early modern world. That is non-religious empirical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus that can never be changed or denied.

My book, The Awful Truth, reveals that the Bible is not a handbook for religion, it is not myth (as put forth by the atheists); it is history. That discovery will forever change the way we view: ourselves, science, religion and the gods of the ancient world.
