We must try to face the reality that these religious attempts to write secular laws reveal that there is something terribly wrong in our modern religions! The fact that they are utterly powerless has critical implications, for all of us, that simply cannot be ignored.

Why are religious leaders coercing governments to write laws that restrict the freedoms of an entire nation, in order to keep their followers in line?
This can also be seen in the religious attempts to force secular governments to write laws on: prostitution, gambling, drug use, and many other so-called sin-laws. I think it is reasonable to ask - does God need the help of secular governments to achieve His moral goals?
There are many accounts in biblical history where God himself took action against violations of His laws. There is a very powerful case of this in the New Testament where Ananias and his wife Sapphira had the breath of life taken from them, by the apostle Peter, for a small offence. (See Acts 5)
Why didn’t someone in Christianity take the breath of life from Christian leaders who were burning people alive in the Inquisition, or other more modern offenses like those of: David Koresh, Jim Jones, Jim Baker, pedophile priests and the bishops who covered-up these sexual assaults on children in their care? Why are these priests and bishops being tried in secular courts?
We must try to face the reality that these religious attempts to write secular laws reveal that there is something terribly wrong in our modern religions! The fact that they are utterly powerless has critical implications, for all of us, that simply cannot be ignored.
